If you Macbook computer is experiencing battery problems such as the battery won’t hold a charge, you have three options which include have apple replace the battery if your Macbook computer is still under warranty, had a repair shop replace it, or replace it yourself.

Apple has presented MacBook owners who have experienced batteries that won’t hold a charge following the installation of Apples battery update with three options. These owners can make an appointment with the Apple Support Contact Center, an Apple Authorized Service provider, or a local Apple store to discuss the possibility of a battery replacement.

Macbook owners who have experienced at least one of the four following problems should select one of the options:

Battery causes X to appear in the battery icon in the Finder menu bar and won’t charge when the computer is plugged into AC power. Battery exhibits low charge runtime/capacity when running on a battery that is fully charged with a battery cycle count of under 300. Battery pack is deformed.

The customer is responsible for transportation costs and for some of delivery costs if the new battery is shipped by airmail. The original battery must be sent to Apple for recycling. When the customer accepts a battery replacement installation, battery repair coverage for the Macbook computer is extended up to two years after the date of purchase.

If the Macbook computer is out of warranty, the owner can also elect to have an authorized repair shop replace the battery. There are many repair shops available on the Internet who can do the battery replacement. This is the second least expensive way to have the battery replaced. It is less expensive than having Apple replace the battery if the Macbook computer is out of warranty but more expensive than replacing the battery yourself.

The Macbook computer can run on the rechargeable battery or on a power adapter. The rechargeable battery has a lifespan of up to three years. After that, the battery will probably not be able to hold a charge. You should replace the battery when the battery is unable to power the Macbook for any length of time. Here is how to replace the battery.

Remove the power adapter and power the MacBook computer off. With the bottom facing upward, lay the MacBook computer on a flat surface. There are latches on both sides of the battery. Slide the two battery releases latches upward. To remove the battery from its tray, lift the inward facing part of the battery up. Inserting the back of the new battery into the back of the housing and slowly rotate the front of the battery downward and the battery latches will lock into position.
